book decor

"A room without books is
like a body without a soul."  -Cicero

Whether you stack them,
line them up or display them prominently,
books always add drama, character
and warmth to a room.

They're a great way to add color too!

Books can personalize
your space at a glance.

Always display books that have
a personal meaning to you.

The perfect way to accessorize!

This way, you'll always have
one within arms reach!

So many options!

And fabulous ways to style them!

How do you display your books?

It's so easy!

a beachy, industrial style home

Welcome to the world of Shelly Kormeluk.
Her love of color and quirky transformations
create a one-of-a-kind vibe that is perfect
for her and her two boys.

In her home, she has combined
a coastal industrial style with
a cool mountain resort style that
reflects her Idaho and Utah roots.

Shelly collected hotel keys from around the world
and covered a headboard for the guest room.

She repurposed old skis into a back splash.

A colorfully salvaged oil drum is
a base for the sink in the powder room.

a modern chandelier in the entry
contrasts beautifully with the natural stone wall

a variety of textures in the stairway

the front entry

the game room features an American flag
made of salvaged licence plates

a relaxing seating area with fireplace in the backyard

you can find interesting accents in every room

with a fabulous back yard that is perfect for relaxing!

Great job, Shelly!
This house was featured on the
Newport Harbor Home and Garden Tour last year.

I really enjoyed visiting this house in person and am looking forward to the next home tour in May. Let me know what you think of this home!

for the love of green

a little st. paddy's day inspiration....

Bringing the color green into your
home is way to bring a little bit of nature indoors.

Green is the most common color out in nature,
and it instinctively calms the soul.

It renews and restores depleted energy.

It's the sanctuary away from the stresses
of modern living, restoring us
back to a sense of well-being.

Marena's home in Better Homes & Gardens

I recently found some old issues of
Better Homes & Gardens magazines and
took the afternoon to skim through them.

In the August 2010 copy,
I was pleasantly surprised to see
my friend Marena's home featured!
Marena is one of the co-chairs for the
Newport Harbor Home Tour and her home
has always been one of my favorites.

It's so cozy and fun! She decorated it with
the help of a few other talented friends
and the outcome is just a great casual
family home with a definite California vibe!

See for yourself...
